“What is winning but in darkness to pull a thread of light from the sky?”
We thirst for light. Especially when it is dark for too long.
I decide to take the train, go to the hotel, wash up and put on my sky-blue dress of sparkling sequins. A strand of pencil and a veil of lipstick.
I love rituals and feel the need to prepare properly to meet a deity.
“Good evening, I'll be back around midnight.”
“Where are you off to?”
“To meet a deity,” I reply, smiling.
“It's been a long time since you meet deities in Rome.”
“Yet it can still happen.”
“Oh yeah?”
“Sure.”
“And what do you call this deity?” the receptionist asks me with some irony.
“Eki.”
“And who?”
“E-K-I.”
“Whatever. Have fun.”
“Thanks, see you later”
Images of the eternal city flow before my eyes from the cab window.
The power of history still wins, despite everything.
“You are still beautiful.”
I cross the threshold of what will be the venue for the expected meeting. It is a large garden, as in the best traditions.
I look up and am greeted by the most varied forms of leaves, plants, flowers, scents. “Will I be in Eden?”
My breath quickens and my eyes try to register the colors of a sunset that tinges everything pink.
I went alone to the appointment. Me and my sequins.
I turn, a presence touches me - “Wow even the Vestals,” I think to myself.
“There are four of us, we guard the sacred fire,” a maiden dressed in white with long hair down her back tells me - she read my mind.
“You also have a sequined dress,” I tell her.
“Welcome, I am Ariadne, from the Greek Ariadne, pure, sacred.”
“The other vestals, what are their names?”
“Camilla, from Camillus, for the Romans maiden of free condition who assisted the priest during sacred rites.
Claudia, from clausus, inviolable, inaccessible.
Eleanor, in Hebrew El means “God,” nur “light. God is my light.”
I begin to feel comfortable.
“And who are they?” - my attention is caught by ethereal dancing figures wrapped in iridescent veils, able to draw archetypal movements with their bodies in tune with the rhythm of the music. They hypnotize me a little.
“The Heavenly Dancers.”
The garden slowly fills with people.
“They are all looking for the Light,” says Arianna.
“And how many are there?”
“By the end of the evening there will be many of us. Three hundred.”
“All here for Eki?”
“Yes. Eki manifests every six months, on the days of the winter and summer solstice. It marks the passage of time. We need rituals.
“And how does it manifest itself?”
“It manifests itself, it manifests itself by touch. Human beings want to experience with the senses what is divine.”
“I am excited. I need to be reborn.”
“We are in the right place “.
Eki is light written, drawn (photos-graphia), stopped in time, which can be read, leafed through, assimilated.
Perhaps, to meet divinity, one must become like the wonderful plants I met and embraced in the Botanical Garden in Rome.
If we are what we eat, to become Light, one must feed on Light.
I thank the founders of Eki Camilla Cattabriga, Claudia Sicuranza, Eleonora Contessa; Arianna Pera, the engine of this project.
After all, THE Light is woman.
